When artists of anything are stumped as to what to create, be it painting, or writing, whatever, they long for that feeling as artists for inspiration to return and become a presence. Something in them hopes to fill a need for getting their expression out there, be it pen to paper or fine art reproductions like Andy Warhol.

Pop art used to elude me.. now I think it beacons me! I think I need to have some fun and be playful like Keith Haring. Warhol, Lichenstein, Basquiat. Any artist with a fever for expression keeps in mind that abstract is something from the heart. Chagal painting his dreams, dream interpretation all over his canvases; Keith Haring creating his fun sculptures, Lichenstein with his comic strips gone big… I want to have that fever!

These artists were also caught up in the frenzy of promotion. Bad? Does that lessen the arts quality? Is there also an art to promotion? Just ask Warhol. Isn’t that what is done all over the internet with art? Warhol was genius! He would have LOVED to have had internet access.

Passion for art does not necessarily mean drama, it is an expression from the heart that is projected from the soul. The soul of many gives us all kinds of expressions, drama in goth and dragon art, magic in fantasy fairies and goddess art, gyco car insurance in the old masters technique; playfulness in pop art, obsession often found in abstract. Keith Haring did some very exciting work and he did it in a fever… one that many artists hope to possess. I do!

When the time arrives to bug out to a safe location we all have some idea as to what we should take with us. In some cases these essential items are contained in out Bug out Vehicle well ahead of their actual need.

Make sure that you include several pot holders in your kit as the handles may possibly get very hot.

Although you only require a few essential pieces of cookware should you be really cramped for space a single unit can fill the bill. This is all according to the number of people for which the cookware will have to provide meals for. Naturally, the more individuals you have with you the more equipment you will require.

A fancy pair of heels can set you back well over $100, on top of all the money you’ve already spent on your dress and prom night activities. But is it really worth it?

*If you’re wearing a long gown, consider going with decorated ballet flats instead of heels. After all, no one’s going to see your feet! You’ll save money and you’ll be more comfortable as you dance the night away.

*If you’ve chosen a short dress and need nice shoes that people will see, check out discount shoe stores and keep your eye out for sales. Or wear an old pair of shoes from your closet or a friend’s. Be realistic - are you going to wear the shoes the whole night or will you take them off to dance? While biscuits are more common for breakfast, they are also popular with other meals. So biscuits are not just for breakfast. But, they are not that easy to make at home, unless you know a few tips.

Then you need to follow these few simple tips:

1. Do not overwork the dough. Biscuits do not need to be kneaded. This will make heavy, tough biscuits. After you roll the dough out on your board, simply fold the dough over on itself about three times. Then Stop! Next, gently form a round shape and roll it out to about a 1 1/2 to 2 inch thickness with your rolling pin.

2. When you cut out the biscuits from the dough, push the biscuit cutter straight down, then straight up. Do not push down and twist. This compacts the edges of the dough and causes uneven cooking and tough biscuits.

3. Always pre-heat your oven completely (generally 400-425 degrees). Different ovens vary in the time required to get up to temperature. I recommend you always allow at least 15 minutes after turning the oven on before putting the biscuits in. A cold (or not fully pre-heated) oven is the leading cause for failure of the dough to rise (flat biscuits).

4. And finally…this should be a no-brainer, but my neighbor was guilty of the following: She said she liked thick biscuits with lots of soft insides, but her biscuits were always thin and flat. So I watched her make a batch of biscuits, expecting to find that she was not pre-heating the oven. Gokshujkne this was not the problem. She was doing everything right, except one obvious error. When she rolled out the dough, she rolled it about 1/2 inch thick and began cutting out the biscuits. After she cut half the dough, I suggested she roll the remaining dough to 1 1/2 to 2 inches thick and cut the last biscuits from that.

A few minutes later, she pulled the biscuits from the oven, half flat and the others big and fluffy.

Don’t have a biscuit cutter? Check your water glasses. You probably have one that is just the size for the diameter of biscuits you want. Flour the lip of the glass to prevent sticking and it works fine.

Another tip: I recommend you utilize buttermilk instead of regular milk for your biscuits. It provides better flavor and seems to make lighter biscuits. If you do not keep buttermilk on hand (I don’t), you can make a substitute by adding a tablespoon of white vinegar in a cup of regular milk. Stir and allow to sit for a minute before utilize.

So, the next time you make biscuits, utilize these tips and stand by for the compliments.
