Printing on Canvas

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

Given the progress in inkjet and media technology, demand for printing photographs and art on canvas is growing exponentially. Whether you have 1971 Topps baseball cards good inkjet printer or you prefer to have your work done by a professional outfit, it is worth to explore this option for any type of image. We constantly receive requests from wedding and portrait photographers who want to print large canvas for their clients.

Artists regularly order limited edition prints on canvas and watercolor papers to sell to collectors. These reproductions usually are signed and are accompanied by a COA (Certificate of authenticity). Buyers are very receptive to purchasing canvas prints they can hang up without a protective glass, without worrying about scratches and water damage.

The texture of a Lost In Space lunchbox art canvas is unparalleled in beauty; a protective coating is applied on top to give the substrate a matte, lustre or glossy look. If you prefer to experiment with this material to see the results, canvas sheets are available at many stores that carry inkjet products.

The differences between a home desktop printer and a professional one are many but I will focus on the most important. First, commercial machines can Isis outfitted with pigmented inks; these inks differ from dye inks commonly found in the cheap home printers because they are archival and will not fade for decades. Dyes on the other hand will start losing brilliance in a matter of months. There are some home use printers now that offer a form of hybrid dye/pigment system. The second difference is the nozzle quality; pro level systems have extremely sophisticated nozzles that can render a very fine dot and exceptional tonal rendition.

The process of printing on fine art materials such as canvas and watercolor papers is referred to as “giclee”. Giclee is a french term that loosely translated means “sprayed on”. It refers to the nozzles which spray ink onto the paper. Giclee printing involves some of the characteristics The Lizard above and it is usually performed by professional shops.

You can read more about giclee and inkjet canvas printing on our website.

Fabio Braghi is the owner and printmaker of a Fine art giclee print company with over fifteen years of experience in digital imaging.

Have You Used Your PayPal Redemption Code?

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009

I am an avid purchaser of eBay items and have just in the last few months been introduced to a PayPal redemption code. At first I thought this Captain America action figure just another internet scam but when I used it on my eBay purchase and the total was deducted, well that got me pretty excited. I know 2 dollars shouldn’t have got me excited but it was actually the potential that got me thinking.

Well I went in search of another PayPal redemption code and was shocked that on the World Wide Web there were barely any to be found. I knew that it was too good to be true but decided to pursue it a little further. I used my keyword and search engine skills to think outside the box and see what I could find. Well I was successful in finding a few more sites with a few more codes but they just weren’t that good. Many of the codes were useless or expired.

I was about to give up until I found a PayPal redemption code that claimed it was worth 250 dollars. I thought for sure this one would be absolutely no good to me until I was able to take 250 bucks off one of my purchases. Well that was it. As if it wasn’t enough that I was already addicted to eBay but now I was addicted to finding more codes on the internet.

I was able to bookmark about 100 sites that had a PayPal redemption code on it. It was a lot of sites to go in and out on a daily basis to see if there were any new codes or anything else I could use. However to me it was worth it because I spent a lot of time on the internet with my affiliate marketing anyway. I did however think about how unfair this was to the 1983 Fleer baseball cards person who didn’t have the time or patience to go looking for these codes. I wondered why they were so hard to find. Why would they be made available but barely accessible?

In saying that I have made it my mission to try and make it easier to find and use a PayPal redemption code. I am not sure how long these will be available. Hell for all I know they could all disappear tomorrow but as long as they are still around I plan on using Battlestar Galactica and helping you to use them as well.

I was lucky enough to find my first paypal redemption code and see that it works.

I want everyone to be able to use them so I have taken all the hard work out of it for you. You see I did the research, built and Dollfie the website so that you don’t have to waste endless hours trying to find a paypal redemption code that is no good to you.

Visit my website. I try to keep it updated to the best of my ability with all the best PayPal redemption codes available.

How to Talk to a Cop Or Police Officer in a Conversation - Networking Note Cards

Saturday, March 21st, 2009

What do you do if you find yourself in a conversation with a police officer or a cop? Don’t feel intimidated. They have hot points Tetris talk about just like you and I do. Below are a few things that you Thor say and ask to a cop or a police officer.

You can use these talking points once you establish what the person you are talking to does. For instance you get into a conversation and you ask, “So what do you spend most of your time doing?”

They respond with telling you they are a police officer, cop, or some other profession related to this field of work.

So use the talking points below to instantly build repore and share in their interest.

Ask:

1. “What will your next promotion be?” Cops are always looking to the next level. Asking this question will draw out their aims and goals which is a must for any successful conversation.

2. “All officers have a crazy story they like to share. What’s yours?” This question is great because it let’s them reminisce a little bit about a fond memory they have while on duty which they love talking about but don’t usually have the chance to.

3. “What in your opinion is the best way to handle being pulled over by The Flash officer?” You obviously wouldn’t ask this question while you’re being pulled over but it is an excellent question to ask while in casual conversation because officers don’t like pulling people over and if they can prevent you from getting a ticket by offering you advice they will.

4. “Where is your Police Athletic League (PAL) located? Do you use it?” The PAL is a place where many of the officers or troopers can get together and play some sports that are being offered. If you show an interest in their PAL you might even get an invite to play a game or two. Asking if they use it gives them the chance to talk about what their PAL has to offer.

5. “What is the most frustrating call to get on duty?” This is another great question because every officer I’ve ever talked to hates getting a certain call Superman action figure it be a domestic violence or drug related. Ask them and they will tell you.

Say:

1. “I have (X) Police Benevolent Association (PBA) Cards OR I never received a PBA card.” The infamous PBA card is always a topic of conversation for officers when they talk to non-police related folk. You shouldn’t just blindly ask for one but rather just talk about a time when you had to use one or when it got you out of a situation.

2. “The training at the academy must have taught you…” This is a great thing to say because you can end this sentence with anything such as: how to shoot a gun, how to cover your partner, how to respond to various calls, etc. Each different thing you say can lead into another conversation.

3. “I’m happy to see a downturn in gang violence in (area).” Say this only if you know an area with less gang violence or crime. You can look this up online as well to find out.

4. “My local police have surprised me because…” This can be ended with a various slew up things. You could say they surprised you because of how well they handled a situation or because of how poorly they have handled a situation. Once again you can go online to look up a quick story of police bravery to keep on the back burner when in conversation.

5. “Police officers sometimes get a bad rap. There should be a way to compliment them.” Whether you know a reason or not you should say this. This opens their eyes because they are used to people perceiving them in a negative light sometimes.

Use these talking points whenever you get into a conversation with police officer.

Magic Kits - A Great Gift For the Adventurous Kid

Thursday, March 19th, 2009

We are always clamoring about to get the best gift for our kids — stuffed toys and cute ribbons for the girls, and Godzilla model cars and robots for the boys. But these don’t spark enough Spider-Man to hone the minds of our children. You need something that give them a lot fun and will help them practice Spider-Man model creativity to the fullest.

One such gift you can give to your children is a magic kit. Instead of going for a playing cards that disappear or strings that the audience can’t see to make something move, you can give them the full set so that they have something to fall back on to practice more skills.

Finding A Good Magic Kit

There are a lot of good magic kits you can find in toy shops in your area. But if you want the full collection available in the market today, then you might want to try out looking for a magic kit set for your kids on the X-Men movie Not only that, some of these sites offers great discounts so that you wont have to strain your budget just to get your kid started on magic tricks.

Look For One With A Tutorial

The best magic kits are those that come with a tutorial. Instead of having to read a book to learn the trick, you can purchase those that come with a free CD/DVD of a master performing the trick to give your child a visual application of their set. Whether its magic cards, coins and money, or illusion; their success with the magic trick will depend on who is teaching them — and a professional magician can do that easy.

Ivory and Medium pink Adhesive and Spray Sealer:

Hot glue sticks; Industrial strength glue; Tacky glue Tacky glue; thin-bodied Matte spray sealer

Tools and Brushes

Drill with ¼” drill bit; Glue gun; Old paintbrush; ; Paintbrush; Scissors

Once you have gathered all of the above materials, it is time to start making your music box. Here are the directions to assemble it.

Step One: prepare the chipboard box. Since these boxes are sometimes flimsy, they must be reinforced with Bakugan placing hot glue around the inside bottom edge of the box (side and bottom) and them allowing it to harden. Next, just apply a heavy layer of Tacky glue to the inside sides of the box and let them dry.

Step Two: using a paintbrush, paint box and lid with the ivory acrylic paint. Paint the beads with medium pink.

Step Three: Cut one strip from the net ribbon, 15 ¾? X 2 ¾”, and one 4 ½” circle. Using the thin-bodied Tacky glue, laminate net ribbon strip to side of box, lining up top edge. Cut small notches to side of box, lining up top edge. Cut small notches in ½” overhang, laminating to box bottom and making sure it is flat and smooth. Centering, laminate 4 ½” circle to box bottom.

Step Four: Using your industrial strength glue, glue square of wood to inside center front of box bottom to which musical movement will be glued. Allow to dry.

Step Five: To mark the hole position for the winding-key shaft, place musical movement inside box at front center (seam is at back). Draw a line around the musical movement. Remove musical movement and place a dot of paint on winding-key shaft. Press the musical movement, winding-key shaft side down, back in the box. Remove the musical movement and drill a ¼” hole in box, centering winding-key shaft in the hole.

Step Six: Using the industrial strength glue, glue beads, evenly space, to the bottom of the box for legs. Glue the musical movement into the box, centering the winding-key shaft in the hole.

Step Seven: Using Tacky glue, glue the lid on the box. Glue the braided trim to the side of lid. Glue the magnet that comes with the musical movement to the bottom of the bunny that has been chosen to dance and twirl. Allow to dry.

Step eight: Wind the wind key extender onto the winding key. Wind the wind key extender onto the winding-key shaft so music can play. Place a bunny with magnet on top of the mirror. Place the tree at the center back of box and remaining bunnies on each side of the tree. Move the tree and bunnies so the dancing bunny does not bump into them. When they are in the right position, glue them on with a small amount of industrial-strength glue. Make sure excess glue does not seep from under the figurines and onto the mirror.

Making music boxes does not have to be difficult. With a little creativity and imagination, the music box and antique collector can create their own collection!

Collecting Antique Dolls Makes A Wonderful Hobby

Monday, March 16th, 2009

The great period for doll making was from 1840 through 1830. In this era doll makers took great pride in their work and turned out dolls of great fine tuned detail, from the hand painted eyes in the smooth porcelain heads to the steel riveted leather or cloth bodies and porcelain limbs. The clothing on these antique dolls were hand made by accomplished seamstresses who took the same pride in their work as the doll makers did.

Today we can see this pride reflected in the dolls that have survived the past hundred or more years and they 1960 Fleer baseball cards truly a joy to look at. The fine porcelain heads with human hair set in the pates with the fine detailed faces reflect the countenance of the time period in which they were made. The wonder and innocence that seems to emulate from those faces can bring us back in time in our imaginations.

The wonderfully refined and cultured dress of the antique dolls that were made to represent the women of the time are exquisite. From the long underclothing to the many layers above, finished off with the high topped shoes and the sun shading hat.

Armand Marseille, Heinrich Handwerck, Ernst Heubach, JD Kestner, Ernst Kammer, Franz Reinhardt, Pierre Jumeau and Leon Casimir Bru were each in the top of the top doll makers in the time period in which they lived and worked their doll magic. Today any of their dolls are the ones collectors keep an eye open for. Marceille, Handwerck, Heubach, Kestner, Kammer and Reinhardt were all of German descent, Jumeau and Bru of French descent.

When collecting antique dolls, everyone wishes for the best, of course, a doll with no cracks or crazing, which is a “weathering” of the doll shown by lines on the surface, and certainly no missing limbs. However, even those dolls are worthy of having in your collection. They show a loved and well played with history and are valuable just as they are, not all cleaned up and repainted and redressed and given new wigs. More often than not , a ” redoing ” will diminish the value of a collectible doll.

If you are a doll lover of any kind, beware. Once you begin to really look Daredevil these old antique dolls, you will be smitten. They are hard to resist, but.. know that any one of them that makes its way into your House of Mystery and your heart will never let you down. Have you ever thought about where your grandparents and great grandparents shopped for their pets? The probability buy linden dollars that would have been slim to none. Back then, times were tough and the thought of spending hard earned money on the family dog, was out of the question. So, old Duke probably lived on a staple diet of table scraps and unwanted leftovers. His favorite chew toy was more than likely, grandpa’s have eaten steak bone. If Boots, the barn cat got into a fight with a porcupine, I’m Elvis our ancestors would have pulled the quills romance comics with an old pair of rusty pliers. To ward off infection, Boots would have grimaced when grandma tended to his wounds with her recently made batch of Lye soap and water.

Fast-forward to the 21st century. Today, you can purchase miniature sized cans of gourmet dog food for your finicky Bichon or you can place an order for a large bag of kibble and have it delivered right to your door. Overall pet industry sales have risen to a whopping 43.4 Billion dollars, this past year. It’s expected that on-line pet supply sales will increase to a staggering 51 Billion dollars by 2010.

We love our pets. We pamper them. We enjoy their company. Now we can take our pets with us when we go to the corner store, visiting family and friends, as well as during our vacation trip. The joy of surprising them with a new toy on a special occasion is priceless. Holiday time also means more opportunities to spoil them with lavish gifts. From high-end designer carriers to high-tech remote control mice, our companion animals deserve more than the essentials.

Shopping for our pets is becoming easier than ever before. We can shop from the comfort of our homes, if we don’t want to drive to the mall. When we do our grocery shopping we not only have the option to buy our four legged friend, a large bag of good quality dog food, we now have the ability to purchase a comfy dog bed too. Many traditional retailers are looking at ways to give us more choice by expanding their pet supply floor space. It seems pet supplies can be found almost anywhere. Amazingly, in some states, you can purchase your pup a Frisbee from a vending machine at the local park.

How to Make Pop Up Cards That Really Deliver

Saturday, March 14th, 2009

Pop ups are greeting cards that deliver a surprise. When you open the card, pieces inside move - they jump out at you, blossom into a 3-D construction, or move across the page. Pop ups have a long history, growing out of three-dimensional book-crafts that appeared as early as the 13th century when writers began including movable elements in books. By the 17th century, “novelty books” with flaps and peepholes were delighting children. By the 1840s, those crafty Victorians adapted these techniques in a big way, mass-producing greeting cards and books with pop ups, rotating wheels, honeycomb papers, and fold-out constructions.

Most pop up cards are relatively simple paper crafts with some special engineering. The first requirement is paper: construction paper or cardstock in a variety of colors; patterned papers; and photos and illustrations, depending on the card design. You’ll need some basic tools: scissors, a craft knife and cutting mat, a bone folder and scorer to make crisp folds, and a ruler (a metal ruler is best for guiding the cutting blade). You’ll also need adhesives such as glue sticks for light paper, and white craft glue or tacky glue for heavy paper. Have pencils and markers for drawing your designs and writing words. Finally, you might need special fasteners such as paper fasteners, string, and rubber bands, and embellishments such as fabric, buttons, ribbons or feathers.

Let’s make one of the simplest forms of pop up cards - a single girl comics that stands up when you open the card. Begin with your basic card, an 8 1/2″ X romance comics piece of white cardstock. Fold it in half horizontally, burnishing the fold with a bone scorer. You now have a folded card, 5 1/2″ X 8 1/2″. This card will open upwards, not to the side.

Choose a photograph of a standing person (like you) - Batman movie from head to foot and about 4″ high. Cut out the figure in as much detail as possible.

Cut a strip of paper or cardstock, 4 1/2″ long and 1/2″ wide. Make a fold 1/2″ from one end. Apply glue to one side of that folded end. Loop the strip around as if making a circle and glue it to the other end of the strip, so that the unglued end of the paper overlaps the glued end and just meets to fold line. Press together until the glue dries.

Holding the fold with one hand, pull the loop flat and crease a fold at the other end of the loop. Bring those two folds together exactly, and crease folds at the two remaining ends of the loop. You now have a square of paper, 1″ on each side.

Place the folded card in front of you, with the folded side away from you. Open it so the top flap stands vertically. Position the paper square in the center of the fold so it stands out with the sides parallel to the faces of the card. Glue the two sides in place on both inside faces of the card. Let it dry. Close the card so the folded strip lays open and flat inside. When you open and close the card, this strip should now form a 3-D square that folds opposite to the fold of the card.

With the card open, glue the feet and legs of the cut-out figure to the front face of the pop up strip. The feet should just touch the card, while the body will extend 3″ above the folded support.

Now - decorate! Add a personal greeting from the photo, written beside the head in a comic “talk balloon” if you wish. Draw a background that fits the photo, or one that will make someone laugh. Draw in a floor, or grass, for your figure to stand on. Finally - save some space for a personal message and signature.

Fold it up. Put it in an envelope. And deliver a big surprise to someone!

There are scores of types of pop up card constructions, and most of them can be adapted to your own handmade cards. Don’t settle for the card that just sits there - make a pop up!
